Winter is here. And for the 3,500+ people who’ll sleep rough in England tonight, it’s the toughest of all seasons. Two young creatives from London-based advertising agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky have decided to bring a bit of warmth to the people living in the streets of King’s Cross with #GiveACup, an initiative that launches today in partnership with local independent coffee shops Cafe OZ, Liliana Coffee, Eat o'clock, Pompidou and a local charity Food for All.
Who hasn’t walked by someone in need and wished they had something other than a few pennies to give? Give a Cup is a simple solution. Just buy a Give a Cup token at one of the two coffee shops for the price of a hot drink, offer it to someone sleeping rough, and they in turn can redeem the token for a free hot drink at participating coffee shops. Alternatively, you can pop the token in a special box inside the café, and Food for All will distribute them to those in need.
Nicholas Kugge and Dennis Engel, the two young creatives at CP+B who came up with the idea, commented, “People usually have a negative perception towards advertising. As juniors, we play a key part in shaping what the industry stands for. We’ve always believed in creating work with a purpose and Give a Cup is our way of doing something that matters. You can now take a stand against homelessness, one latte at a time.”
Coffee shop owner Oguz Saat commented, “As a local business it’s important for us to have a good impact on our community and help its people.”
